DIVINE MERCY CHAPLET IN MOTION
STEPS TO IMPLEMENT AT YOUR CHURCH OR SCHOOL
Hi. My name is Mary Ann Renna.
To teach children to pray, and especially to say or sing the Divine Mercy Chaplet, is one of the most important things we can do at this time. Remember that Jesus told St. Faustina on the 6th Day of the Divine Mercy Novena:
Today bring to me the meek and humble souls and the souls of little children, and immerse them in My mercy. These souls most closely resemble My Heart. They strengthened Me during My bitter agony. I saw them as earthly Angels, who would keep vigil at My altars. I pour out upon them whole torrents of grace. Only the humble soul is able to receive My grace. I favor humble souls with My confidence. (Diary 1220)
I’m so glad you’re looking into the process of teaching the Divine Mercy Chaplet in Motion to a group of these earthly Angels, whether that is in your Church, school, your choir, or anywhere. The Divine Mercy Chaplet in Motion is ideal for young children, preschool age to about fourth grade. It’s very easy to do and, hopefully, these steps will help you in your planning process.
Step 1 – PRAY
Ask the Holy Spirit to show you God’s Will, to lead you through the entire process, to open up the hearts of others to come forward to help you, and for everyone involved to be able to see the importance of teaching the Divine Mercy Chaplet to others, especially our children!
Step 2 – ASK PERMISSION
Ask permission of everyone who might be involved. That may include your Pastor, your school principal, your choir director or group leader, catechists, parents, or anyone else you think of.
Step 3 – CHOOSE YOUR BEST LOCATION
The Church is ideal, especially if Jesus can be Adored in the Monstrance on the Altar while everyone is praying the Chaplet. Even if Jesus is not exposed, it is so very powerful to be in the Church singing to Jesus in the Tabernacle. If this is not possible, perhaps a large room at the church or school would work.
Step 4 – CHOOSE YOUR DAY AND TIME
Once you know where you will have the Chaplet in Motion, you may decide with all involved what would be the best day and time. The entire Chaplet in Motion, including the Opening Prayers and optional “Jesus, I Trust in You” song at the end, would take about 45 minutes. Choose a day and a one hour time slot that is convenient for everyone.
Step 5 – DECIDE IF YOUR MUSIC WILL BE LIVE OR FROM THE RECORDING?
In other words, will the music for the Chaplet be played and sung with live musicians and singers, such as a choir or cantor to lead everyone, or will it be played from the CD or download of Kids Sing Divine Mercy by the Rennas?
The recording Kids Sing Divine Mercy Chaplet (Original Version) is below.
If you have a pianist or guitarist, there is a link for the Sheet Music for the Divine Mercy Chaplet below as well.
The Opening Prayers of the Chaplet, which are the Our Father, the Hail Mary, and the Apostles’ Creed, may be spoken or sung.
If you decide that you would like them to be sung, the links for these recordings are below.
For musicians playing live, links for the lyric sheets with guitar chords are also below.
If you will be using the recording, make sure you have a sound person familiar with the sound system who will be able to play it for you in the Church or the room you’ll be using, so that it’s loud enough for everyone to hear it.
Step 6 – PRACTICE WITH THE CHILDREN
It’s important for the children to know how this incredible Chaplet of the Divine Mercy started.
An easy way to introduce them to it is to show them the short animated video, often shown on EWTN, which will introduce them to St. Faustina and how she obtained the Chaplet from Jesus. There’s a link below for the EWTN Divine Mercy video for children.
Introduce the children to the World Mission Rosary. (See link below.)
Then, you could show the children the Divine Mercy Chaplet in Motion Instruction video. This is where they will hear the music and learn the motions step by step. That link is below as well.
Parents and teachers may practice a few times with them before the actual day to help them to become familiar with it. Of course, live musicians and singers would need to practice more to be able to lead. The music is intentionally easy to play and learn.
On the actual day, if a few volunteers (either adults or children) wish to be in the front to help lead the Chaplet in Motion, it will be most helpful for the children to follow.
There’s a short clip below from Holy Trinity School in Pennsylvania showing how children were placed to lead the school in the Chaplet. This footage is also shown in the EWTN Global Divine Mercy Chaplet which is often shown on EWTN as well.
STEP 7 – TEACH “JESUS, I TRUST IN YOU” SONG
Show the children the motion instructions to the closing song “Jesus, I Trust in You” by the Rennas. The links for the instruction video and the actual recording are below.
To close with this song is completely optional, but it is a nice way to conclude the Divine Mercy Chaplet in Motion. It expresses our love and praise for Jesus very simply through this beautiful devotion.
There is also a link below for a sample Program with the words of all the prayers of the Divine Mercy Chaplet and “Jesus, I Trust in You” song that may be given to all the participants. You may use this Program as it is or as a guide for making your own.
There you have it! Everything you need is here to create a beautiful and prayerful atmosphere for children to learn and sing the Divine Mercy Chaplet in Motion. We pray that you will be greatly blessed for stepping out in faith and teaching others this most important and powerful prayer that Jesus Christ Himself taught us through our beloved St. Faustina!

Divine Mercy Novena —
6th Day
Today bring to me the meek and humble souls and the souls of little children, and immerse them in My mercy.
Most Merciful Jesus, You yourself have said, “Learn from Me for I am meek and humble of heart.” Receive into the abode of Your Most Compassionate Heart all meek and humble souls and the souls of little children. These souls send all heaven into ecstasy and they are the heavenly Father’s favorites. They are a sweet-smelling bouquet before the throne of God; God Himself takes delight in their fragrance. These souls have a permanent abode in Your Most Compassionate Heart, O Jesus, and they unceasingly sing out a hymn of love and mercy. (1221)
A truly gentle and humble soul
Already here on earth the air of paradise breathes,
And in the fragrance of her humble heart
The Creator Himself delights. (1222)
Eternal Father, turn Your merciful gaze upon meek and humble souls, and upon the souls of little children who are enfolded in the abode which is the Most Compassionate Heart of Jesus. These souls bear the closest resemblance to Your Son. Their fragrance rises from the earth and reaches Your very throne. Father of mercy and of all goodness, I beg You by the love You bear these souls and by the delight You take in them: Bless the whole world, that all souls together may sing out the praises of Your mercy for endless ages. Amen. (1223)

You have lovingly answered this call from Jesus by agreeing to begin The Divine Mercy Kids' Prayer Group in your parish, school, or home! The power of the Divine Mercy Chaplet is so great, and when children say or sing it, Jesus' Heart cannot help but be moved to shower His Mercy and blessings! This guide is meant to assist you in the format of the prayer meeting, and to give you ideas for the year. Thank you for your openness to be an instrument of Jesus' Mercy! The children, whose lives you touch, will be forever changed through the power of this Devotion. Jesus, we trust in You!
My daughter, encourage souls to say the chaplet which I have given to you. (Jesus to St. Faustina from her Diary 1541)
Why start The Divine Mercy Kids' Prayer Group in your school or parish?
Jesus asked that we spread devotion to His Divine Mercy by learning the Divine Mercy Chaplet and venerating His Image. He promised that if we do that, we could obtain everything in His Will. The Divine Mercy Kids' Prayer Groups help to teach children, ages K-5th grade, to sing the Chaplet in reverent motion, and to learn how to grow in virtue. Families are consecrated to the Divine Mercy, and parents are always welcome. Meetings are just once a month for 30-45 minutes. It is very easy to start a group!
Theme Song:
Jesus, Friend of children
Here we come to You
In Your Mercy, hear us
Grant Your children's prayer
In Your Mercy, hear us
Grant Your children's prayer
Sung by the Renna Family; contributed by Fr. Anthony Adawu, who is a priest from Ghana. A former Spiritual Advisor, he currently serves as Chaplain and Adjunct Faculty at Mount Mercy University, Cedar Rapids, Iowa, USA.
Optional Opening Prayer to The Divine Mercy Chaplet
"You expired, Jesus, but the source of Life gushed forth for souls, and the Ocean of Mercy opened up for the whole world. O Fount of Life, unfathomable Divine Mercy, envelop the whole world and empty Yourself out upon us. O Blood and Water which gushed forth from the Heart of Jesus as a Fount of Mercy for us, I trust in You (say 3 times).
Optional Closing Prayer to The Divine Mercy Chaplet
Eternal God, in whom mercy is endless and the treasury of compassion — inexhaustible, look kindly upon us and increase Your mercy in us, that in difficult moments we might not despair nor become despondent, but with great confidence submit ourselves to Your holy will, which is Love and Mercy itself.

Act of Consecration of the Family
to The Divine Mercy
O Jesus, You showed us Your infinite compassionate love by exhausting the very last drop of blood and water from Your body. From this day forward, with full confidence, we entrust our families to Your Divine Mercy. We abandon our past, our present and our future. We place into Your wounds all of our wounds which are caused by lack of love, understanding and trust. Jesus, expel Satan and all evil from our families, free us from the consequence of sin and protect us from further harm. Heal our wounds. May our families learn to venerate Your Divine Image that they will never perish but experience Your loving mercy. Amen.

Consecration to the Holy Family
O Lord Jesus, you lived in the home of Mary and Joseph in Nazareth. There you grew in age, wisdom and grace as you prepared to fulfill your mission as our Redeemer. We entrust our family to you. O Blessed Mary, you are the Mother of our Savior. At Nazareth you cared for Jesus and nurtured him in the peace and joy of your home. We entrust our family to you. O Saint Joseph, you provided a secure and loving home for Jesus and Mary, and gave us a model of fatherhood while showing us the dignity of work. We entrust our family to you. Holy Family, we consecrate ourselves and our family to you. May we be completely united in a love that is lasting, faithful and open to the gift of new life. Help us to grow in virtue, to forgive one another from our hearts, and to live in peace all our days. Keep us strong in faith, persevering in prayer, diligent in our work, and generous toward those in need. May our home, O Holy Family, truly become a domestic church where we reflect your example in our daily life. Amen.
Jesus, Mary and Joseph, pray for us!
Prayer composed by Archbishop William E. Lori of Baltimore, Supreme Chaplain.
